Obstacles

There obstacles in business which would stop your customers doing business with you.

I'm sure your company has one or more:

We don't accept AMEX

We don't accept cheques

We don't deliver there

We are not open on Sunday

We don't offer parking

Yet companies prefer doing what they think is convenient for them instead of removing these obstacles.

When was the last time you spent time working on removing these obstacles? Some of these don't need a great deal of thinking or coming up with innovative solution they are pretty simple stuff.

Answering too little too much

Retaining attention of visitors of your website can be tricky business.

One important thing is striking a balance between the style and quantity of copy of your website.

Clear, lucid, and short copy is always good, but how do you know if it is enough to make your visitors take action you want them to?

Should you provide extensive information about your product on your website and risk losing their attention?

or

Should you leave some questions unanswered in order to trigger a conversation between you and your customers?

This would depend on your sales cycle. If you wish to generate a lead leave some questions unanswered and encourage your visitor to ask those questions.

If you wish to convert the visitor into a buying customer whilst they are on your website, it has to have complete information presented in precise and concise manner.

Rome wasn't built in a day

This is particularly true with new marketing (social media, web 2, inbound). Marketing had never been so demanding and time consuming before, this is what I hear from all those who are starting to try the social media.

Suddenly marketing has become a difficult job for those who are used to "put an advert and wait for phones to ring" strategy.

Amazon Kindle now available in the UK

Finally, I got my hands on Amazon Kindle last week as it is now available in the UK (although shipped from the US).

It is a great little gadget for those who love reading a lot. 

Here are some points you should know about Kindle:

• It's a mobile library equivalent to Apple Ipod in terms of a book reader. Stores over 1500 books and more.
• Thin, light and easy to carry and operate.
• You can save money on books as you would be buying from Amazon US which means you will be paying in dollars (subject to £££ being strong)
• Have your friends and family send documents and ebooks email over to you on your Kindle (small charge by Amazon for this $0.99)
• If you can find pdf books over the internet or if you have an existing collection have them converted to Kindle format (.azw) and email over to you by Amazon for free. Just email yourname@free.kindle.com. You can then transfer these files via an usb cable to your kindle.
• Subscribe to your favourite blog, magazines etc.

I see the Amazon Kindle as a distribution platform for ebooks as is Apple itunes for music and podcast.

Polluted data

Imagine when you have to fill up long daunting form on a website, to enquire about something or when you buying something on the web.

By asking for too much and unnecessary information on the web you are asking for a polluted data,as people fill in for the sake (not so true info) of getting through form. Also you are not making it easy for your users to share information.

Do you need a resume?

As neatly quoted by Brogan in his new book Trust Agents "The web is such a powerful resource for leveraging contacts and presenting our strengths that a resume becomes irrelevant. It's not so much that you don't need one, but you will never be asked for a resume because your reputation will precede you. Instead you will just get hired"

This doesn't just apply to celebrities or thought leaders, this applies to everyone. Anyone who is determine to create his or her on-line presence by seeking, building and developing real connections.
